A prominent position that provides onsite A/V technical support for live events and meetings in meeting rooms, conference rooms, classrooms, and public locations. This role provides support for stage performances in the auditorium and live stream special events.
Organization Relationship
The Audio Visual Technician reports to the Director of IT, who reports to the CIO, who reports to the Vice President of Institutional Support & Technology, who reports to the President.
Essential Functions
Act as the primary point of contact to monitor and respond to the support of audio-visual (A/V) requests and incidents.
Act as a primary point of contact to provide A/V support and operation for special campus events and academic activities. This includes understanding needs, scheduling, communicating, training, and running equipment at events and activities.
Work closely with other stakeholders to manage, support, maintain and install A/V in classrooms and other instructional spaces.
Keep detailed inventory for all A/V equipment.
Develop documentation for all A/V systems.
Develop and document preventative maintenance schedules for A/V equipment.
Work with all campus stakeholders to research, install, and support campus A/V and supporting IT systems.
Serve as a primary role in the setup of projectors, screens, mixers, speakers, and microphones.
Educate student workers on the procedures of A/V campus support.
Communicate effectively via chat, email, phone, or in-person with end-users and their needs/issues.
Support the maintenance of the HelpDesk database used by the HelpDesk and others within the IT Department
Develop and refine existing HelpDesk documentation, especially in the areas of A/V.
Coordinate and work closely with others in the IT department to promote excellent customer service and timely technical support, response, and resolution.
Document support tickets using Helpdesk software for assignment and prioritization of customer issues.
Alert IT Department staff of potentially critical situations based on end-user input.
Other duties assigned.
Develop and implement strategic plans for audio/visual technology initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
Establish and enforce standards and protocols for audio/visual equipment, installations, and usage.
Collaborate with other departments to assess audio/visual needs and priorities across the organization.
Evaluate and recommend investments in audio/visual technology infrastructure and resources.
Represent the audio/visual department in cross-functional meetings and committees.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards in audio/visual technology.
Qualifications of the Position
Associate degree in related field and two years related experience.
Skilled knowledge of operating A/V equipment, including microphones, soundboards, speakers, video cameras, and lightboards.
Ability to identify technical issues and work under pressure for quick resolutions.
Understanding of both Windows and Mac operating systems.
A high level of proficiency in applicable technologies and software (e.g., MS Office Suite)
Strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to research, interpret and test other and new types of multimedia.
Hold or be willing to procure a Creston/Extron certification.
Analytical and problem-solving skills, including collecting information through communication, questioning, and interview techniques.
Excellent listening, communication, and customer service skills and the ability to execute in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
Customer-oriented with a desire to help others and patience to deal with demanding customers.
Cooperative team player and willing to work in a collaborative team environment to determine best practices, resolutions to complex issues, and knowledge transfer.

Supervisory Controls
Work closely with the CIO to provide support and services on behalf of the department.

Personal Relationships
Position will have frequent contact with college employees, students, community members, board of trustees, and outside organizations.
Work Hours/Conditions:
Office environment; 40 hours per week; usually 8:00 am-5:00 pm; Based on campuswide events, some evenings and weekends will occur. During these times, flexible work hours can be scheduled.
Hold a valid drivers license with no restrictions and possess reliable transportation.
Must be willing to work evenings and weekends in addition to occasional long and irregular hours necessitated by special events/projects.
Lift equipment up to 50 pounds. Endurance to sit and stand for long periods and have good hearing and eyesight.

VACATION LEAVE 1.83 days per month, for a total of 22 days per fiscal year. For grant-funded employees, vacation time must be used in the year that it is earned.

RETIREMENT PLAN
The State Universities Retirement System requires that 8% of an employees monthly gross pay is deducted for individual retirement purposes.
It is also required that .85% of an employees monthly gross pay be deducted to fund the College Insurance Plan for Community College Retirees.
